Week 13

Image
Happy week 13! And there’s certainly a change in the air, Autumn is definitely here. Gone away are the cotton dresses and out have come the knitted jumpers.   Who knows what will happen with our weather this winter and how some families will get through it without incurring debt through sky high heating bills. Maybe we could open our doors to some of these people, especially those in need through loneliness or misfortune. I know this is what I intend to do more of.   This week saw my first District Council Meeting take place and although I had some I.T issues, which I’m glad are now solved, it was brilliant to see so many Clubs attend and so many people take part. Please remember this is your District and we want you to get involved so that we lead in the right direction taking into account the combined thoughts of us all.     Although our meeting was on zoom it was good to see so many faces, many whom I have not had the opportunity to meet yet face to face.   Please

Week 12

Well, would you believe it when I say that a quarter of my Rotary District Governor year has gone already, it’s unbelievable how quickly that time has passed. Before I start my ramblings, I must say how proud yesterday’s state funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth made me feel. Every person from our excellent Military Service, Emergency Services, including St John Ambulance and the wonderful scouts and all volunteers who collected food which was donated to the Felix project for homeless in London and families in need was amazing. It was just brilliant and so fitting for the Service she had given to our country. I read later a tweet from Prince William that 5.1 billion people had watched the funeral on social media, 62% of the world, that just showed how much we all loved and respected her.   May she now rest in peace and God Save the King. On Tuesday last week I was invited by President Geoff Knipe of Lancaster Loyne Rotary Club to give a vote of thanks to a guest speaker John Na

Before I start my blog, it would be remiss of me not to stop and think of the death of H.M Queen Elizabeth, a shock not only to the Country, but to the World. Such a beautiful person who served our country so fittingly and so gracefully. May she rest in peace with her beloved husband, Prince Philip. I had the pleasure to meet the Queen several times, once at Holyrood Palace and twice at Buckingham Palace. When She presented me with my MBE we had a conversation and she thanked me for the work I was doing. She knew so much about me; it was obvious she had done her homework! Her death has made me so sad, but in other ways it reminds you of lovely memories, if you know what I mean.   I also had the pleasure of meeting the now King Charles III when I was invited to Dumfries House in Scotland, also a wonderful memory to pass on to my grandchildren. God Save the King and the Royal Family and my thoughts are with them during this sad time. Well, my week started on a good note when

DG Blog Weeks 9 & 10

Another enjoyable couple of weeks spent busily juggling work and Rotary. I feel my time management skills will be perfect after the next 10 months. It is clear to me after this year’s successful Rotakid’s event how important we have become in our collaboration with teachers and young people. The young people get so much from the programme and I firmly believe any engagement with young people by Rotarians is worth all the hard work and is definitely money and time well spent. When all said and done this type of engagement leaves a lasting memory with the young people. They are the volunteers of the future and any positive engagement surely has to be a good thing. I have managed to secure the funding, through a contact, for a conference next year and I’m confident that we can now look even further than that. Safe to say that’s a work already in progress. We have a fantastic Youth Team and ones who look specifically at the Rotakid’s conference. They give so much and I would like t
