Weeks 15 & 16 Kath's Ramblings
Good
afternoon, Rotarians and Friends
This
will be a bumper blog as I’ve not had chance to write one for the last two
weeks with being so busy.
Well
first, the weather has certainly changed and I’m back to the winter clothing,
but I suppose that’s to be expected as we are in the middle of October! And now
less than 10 weeks to Christmas!
I’ve
had a great couple of weeks and met some wonderful people.
Going around the District has certainly opened
my eyes to the amount of really good work District 1190 does. We are a very
active District with some amazing projects, lets continue to shout out about
the work we are doing. It would be great to see all the work going onto all our
social media platforms.
On
Thursday 6th October I attend a couple of events; at lunch I visited
Accrington Stanley Football ground, the meeting place of Accrington Rotary
Club. What a wow factor the ground and Club has.
The staff went above and beyond to assist me,
and the menu and food was superb. Accrington Club is again another very active Club,
with lots of great projects and some very willing members.
The
President’s wife sent some lovely chutney which she had made to raise money for
the hospice, and I brought a jar for my husband to enjoy with some cheese. Can
I just say it didn’t last very long. I had a great time at Accrington, and it
was a pleasure to meet such a fantastic Team of people; The Club supported my
polio raffle for the limited edition print we have been given by International
President Jennifer Jones.
Later
that same day I attended my own Club’s Charter Evening held at Morecambe Golf
Club, and what a lovely night we had, with great food, good friends, and a
perfect speaker.
Our
speaker was a local farmer, John Dawson, who gave a very funny and informative
talk about his life on the farm and the work of his Parents and Grandparents
who had also worked on the same farm. He recalled many incidents of his work
assisting an Undertaker. His talk included a little piece surrounding the
production of the food we eat, it’s price and quality. It left me discussing
with my husband the benefits of us supporting our local farmers. I can’t
recommend this speaker enough, he held us captivated by his stories, and if you
want to consider inviting him to your Club, please let me know and I will send
you his details.
On Monday 10th I attended a club meeting at Ulverston, I’m getting to be a regular with Ulverston, the members are all very welcoming. They do so much work in the Town and surrounding areas. Their attendance is great and the food and service at Ulverston Golf Club is excellent. Well worth visiting. I will be seeing this Club again as they have invited me to an event on the 30th December 2022.
On
Thursday 13th October 2023, I attended Mitton Hall for the Charter
Night of Clitheroe Club. Although delayed by almost an hour and 30minutes due
to an incident on the M6, we arrived just in time, so no embarrassment. I had a
fear of rushing into the room and finding everybody sat around their tables watching
me making a grand entrance looking like I had been pulled through a hedge
backwards. But no, I had time to readjust my hair and clothes and look half
presentable. Again, this was a beautiful venue choice, with delicious food and
it was obvious President Karin is working hard in the Club and enjoying her
time as President. Karin has a beautiful
nature and is proud of Clitheroe Rotary Club and the huge amount of work taking
place, and so am I. Karin’s speaker spoke about the Soroptimists and the work
they do, which does complement the work we do as Rotarians. Again, this was a
passionate talk which was very well received.
What
an action-packed two weeks I have had and I would love to thank Presidents and
Rotarians for inviting me as it has opened my eyes to the District.
The
final, but most important thing I want to mention to all Rotarians is the
District Conference 2023 at Barton Manor (Please see the attached link ).

I
know people have found it hard this year to look too far ahead, a letter has
been sent out to all Presidents to ask for your and your Clubs’ attendance.
This Conference is about our future - ‘Young People’.
Please
show your support by booking asap for Conference as we will have limited places
and I would hate for you to miss out.
Just
before I go can I remind everyone about the Purple4 Polio Chocolates. I will be
placing the last order this year in a couple of weeks (again see the link below
and scroll down the front page). These will be for delivery in plenty of time
for your Christmas tables.

Thank you so much for all your support.
That’s all for now folks, TTFN
