Week 20

Well, here we are week 20! How the heck did we get here so fast?

Not that long to go now until many Rotary Clubs reach their busy period organising Christmas Sleigh collections and, best of all, Festive parties.

In my year I can honestly say this has been the most challenging week, and not one I want to go through again, but its been a learning curve and I will take the learning with me going forward.

This week I attended the 70th Charter of Longridge Rotary Club, held at Barton Manor and what an excellent night it was. 120 people attended, with several of these being friends of Rotary and Corporate Invites. Tom Finney’s son was a guest of Peter Mason, and it was great to see him.

I must say the guests certainly brought the average age of Rotary down and it was brilliant to have large tables of young men and women on the guest list.

President Graham Robinson certainly gave us a good night out with his speaker Eddie The Eagle who spoke passionately about his life and the sacrifices he made to get to the Olympics in Calgary. What a humble man, he is and so down to earth.

Thank you, Longridge Rotarians, for the lovely evening, it’s always a great pleasure to see you all and well done in your efforts for membership. I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Friday evening was a charity night organised by President Geoff Knipe and the Rotarians of Lancaster Loyne. The entertainment they had arranged were ‘The Fontaines’ a group from the 60’s and gosh what fantastic voices they had.

It was a great evening in aid of Ukrainians who had settled in Lancaster and District. We were treated to a Pie and Peas Supper at the home of Morecambe Football Club, which is a great venue, and I believe award winning pies!

Thank you President Geoff and Lancaster Loyne. I believe around £500 was raised which is a great effort.

I am pleased to report that Church and Oswaldtwistle Club has raised £984.00, so far this year, for the End Polio Now campaign. They have held a number of events, including;

  • An Open gardens project which raised £189
  • A Supper, raffle & Quiz night which raised £295
  • ·  Sale of boxed purple Tulips which raised £500

What a fantastic effort for the End Polio Now campaign.

I would like to see all Clubs looking at Foundation and in particularly Polio, which I’m really trying to promote this year.

In addition to the outstanding Purple Gin range, to raise funds to end Polio, a new gin will be launched in time for Christmas.

To encourage immediate sales, a free to enter competition is in full swing and you could win £196 of gin.

All you need to do is place an order to purchase six bottles of Passionately Purple Gin, by the end of November, and you will be entered in to the draw.

That alone will have raised around £120 for end Polio.

The order form is on the District website and further information can also be obtained direct from Poulton Rotary Club.

A tin of “Purple for Polio” Quality Street sweets would be an excellent partner to the Passionately Purple gin!

Bonfire night returned to Poulton with a bang after a three-year absence.

Over 4,000 attended and more than £16,000 will be donated to local charities.

This was the 36th event organised by Poulton Rotary Club and was thought to be the best one ever.

Thanks to Poulton for working so hard on both counts, it’s very much appreciated.

My last note will be a reminder and link for your District Conference 2023. This Conference will celebrate youth in our communities and the benefits of working with young people. Bookings are being received by our District Treasurer, please book your place to avoid any disappointment. I would love to see you all there.

Remember ,what a gift A tin of beautiful Purple ones and a bottle of Gin, Christmas sorted!

That’s all for now folks, TTFN
