Week 6
Dear Friends, the beginning of August already! Time appears to be moving along at an ever increasing fast pace.
For those who have had the opportunity to listen to Rotary Radio UK you will have heard the start of many messages from me as well as many others from around the District. We are very lucky that Rotary Radio is being dedicated to District 1190 this month. Grab yourself a coffee and tune in as it’s really easy listening.
This week I have been having meetings with both Public Image and Membership Leads, it’s been great to talk about the work being carried out around these two very important aspects. Much of the discussion has been about how we can involve Club leads to help us look at new ideas and putting those ideas into practice. The focus being aimed not as tasks for individuals but Clubs working as a Team.
We are now putting together a list for the next order of “Purple for Polio” Quality Street tins which I will place during September. Please let our District Secretary Larry Branyan know if you are interested in ordering as, again, the order will be limited 100 tins.

When visiting Clubs I will be bringing with me a limited edition print that has been gifted by Jennifer Jones to help raise funds for the fight against Polio. The print has been designed using the colours for the theme ‘Imagine’ and a total of just 600 copies have been produced. The print comes with a certificate of authenticity which shows the value to be $800. One print has been gifted to each District Governor within Rotary to use to raise funds for Polio. I have had the print professionally framed and it does look beautiful. My intention is to sell raffle tickets for £1 each with 2000 being available to the Members of District 1190. The winning ticket will be drawn at the Conference in 2023.
I’m looking forward to the first District Executive Meeting of the year on Monday 8 August, which is being held virtually. I decided to print all the reports, in preparation for the meeting and was stunned at how many get sent for this meeting.
My thoughts went out to the District Secretary Malcolm, also Kath before him, about how much work it takes to get these together! I think the time is right for us to really take a long hard look at how better we can do this, together.
A number of weeks ago I talked
about a wonderful lady called Sally who wanted to donate a large amount of
designer children’s clothing. Having collected the clothing and spoken at
length to Sally I have given a great deal of thought about how to best to use
the items. With Sally’s agreement we will be holding a sale of the clothing,
which is yet to be arranged. If anybody can think of a great Village hall or an
empty pop-up shop where we could get lots of people with young children in
please let me know.
Perhaps we could open the venue up for other local charities or crafts, it would be great if we can do this as a wider Team. The decision has been made to divide the money raised equally between helping with the struggle in Ukraine, the fight against Polio and purchasing energy vouchers for the elderly and families within our community who are struggling as a result of the current cost of living crisis.
“Walk a Mile for Polio” is again being organised for the District and I would absolutely love all our clubs to consider helping with this one. Your AG‘s will be provided with the paperwork for this fund-raising initiative. If you would like me to send details of this out to you please let me know.
It is my intention to visit all Clubs within the District this year so please can I ask that you contact me with any dates and I will get them into my diary.
That’s all for now folks and all that’s left is for me to say a massive Thank you to you all, we are a great District and I’m honoured to be your District Governor.
