Week 4

The last seven days has been yet another busy week juggling Rotary, work and home life (in that order of priority!).

On Tuesday I attended the Finance meeting and I now know just how much hard work all the members of this team do. Their work is of tremendous benefit to our District. It has certainly made me realise that I would be of no use to my Club or The District as Treasurer, things would really be in a mess very quickly. I would just like to express my sincere Thanks to the whole Team, you do a fantastic job.

On Wednesday I attended the District Foundation Meeting, a first with John McGill at the helm. Though to be honest you’d be forgiven for thinking he’d been there a long time, I wonder why that was? He has probably had to live and breathe it for so long, with the wonderful Val being the lead for years. I really enjoyed this meeting, everyone taking part was so enthusiastic and committed to continuing the fight to support the eradication of polio. There was also a strong reminder that Foundation is Rotary’s only Charity and we need to remind ourselves that if we give our support now, we will reap the benefits further down the line . It would be fantastic if people could look at giving on a monthly basis, the cost of a single cup of coffee a week, every week is all it would take. I appreciate things are tough at the moment with the cost of everything spiralling but do please try and support this very worthy cause.

All of a sudden I realise its Thursday night and time to visit my own club, Carnforth. I listened to long time member Doug Taylor, aka the Birdman, talk about his life with racing pigeons.  But not just about his pigeons, Doug talked about his 69 years of married life and his paid job as an Undertaker. He’s worth listening to and we had such a laugh.

Looking forward, I’m going to assist Darwen Club, Lancashire on Saturday 3rd September at their Rotary Day held in the Market Square. It may be worth a visit to Darwen for you on this day, I know the club work really hard.

On the 5th November I’ve been invited to a “Brunch for Polio” by Cockermouth Rotary Club in support of my DG Charity for this year. Really looking forward to visiting my friends at this club.

Do please remember if you would like me to visit your Club to help at an event, or to attend one of your regular meetings, just get in touch - I’m more than happy to help out where I can.

One last thing, I’ve been told that a couple of early birds have booked in already for the Rotary Conference 2023. At least now I know I’m not going to be alone!

Seriously though, if you want to book early the details are are on the website and, I’d love to see you there.

DG Kath
