Week 5
Dear Friends, I hope you all have
had a good week. I must admit I have learned a few new things this week and
it’s been a bit of a challenge.
I started the week with two informal
evening meetings with a number of Club Secretaries looking at ways of improving
communication between District and the Clubs. I particularly wanted to
look at the tools and resources used to do this and how to improve things for
the better. I was also keen to explore what things were barriers to
communication and what changes, if any, could be made.
There is always room for improvement
in any system and I want to make sure we are doing the best we can to provide
effective communication. Every organisation must evolve as technology moves
forward at a tremendous pace and if Rotary is to keep up, we must welcome and
accept change as a positive thing, it is good to share ideas in this kind of
conversation.
There were lots of good ideas and suggestions
made and I now realise just how much hard work Club Secretaries do for their
respective Club and its Members. I also appreciate now what a pivotal role
the Secretaries perform for their Clubs.
To all Club Secretaries in District
1190 I’d like to say Thank You for everything you do to support a smooth
running Club. I am very much looking forward to meeting you all very soon.
I have received a lovely invitation
from District 1140 to attend their Conference which is being held in Chester in
October this year. They have asked me to say a few words which may prove a
little difficult as I can usually talk forever.
My diary is beginning to fill up and
I’m looking forward to the start of my DG Rotary Road Trip, which starts in
early August, as I visit Clubs within the District. That reminds me, I’ll need
to learn how to use the Sat Nav in the car!
If nothing else this week I have
learnt how important it is to be surrounded by a fantastic Team who all work
with me. I consider you all as friends and I sincerely thank you for putting
Service before Self.
To leave you with a little teaser I,
hopefully, will have some exciting news about a visit to the District from a
very important guest during this Rotary year. It is my intention to visit some
Rotary projects to showcase the District and allow the guest to meet the
fantastic Rotarians and the youth we work with.
I don’t want to say any more at this
time, plans are at a very early stage, but watch this space for future updates.
To end this week’s ramblings on a
positive note I have great pleasure in announcing that over the last few weeks
we have welcomed 11 new members in to Rotary within this District. I wish them
all the very best in their Rotary journey and am very much looking forward to
meeting each of them when I visit their Clubs.
Welcome to:
Rachel Esposito and Brent Parker - Cockermouth Rotary Club.
Stuart Atkinson - Brampton and Longtown Rotary Club.
That’s all for now folks.
