Week 14

Another busy Rotary week last week with lots of different activities coupled with a hard week at work.

My Rotary week started with an excellent visit to Ribblesdale Rotary Club, a lovely drive across to the Calf’s Head public House, their regular meeting place.

I received a warm welcome from President Richard and all the Rotarians. The Members talked about many of their activates. We had a lovely meal and a good talk with plenty of questions. I hope to visit this Club again during my year and have offered to assist with any polio activities they undertake. My sincere thanks go to President Richard and all the Club Members for their invite and hospitality and in particular to Linda Bindless the Club Secretary. It was lovely to meet you all.

On Thursday I attended  the online Membership Seminar which really gave food for thought. The Seminar produced lots of interesting ideas for new ways of working, something that District 1190 may need to start developing.

On Friday Evening it was the 43rd Charter Night at Upper Eden Rotary Club and I was invited as a guest along with Member of Parliament Tim Farron, who was the main speaker.

It was a lovely Charter Night with over 60 people in attendance, making a great audience. I know there may be some Rotarians who say Politics should not be brought into Rotary and on this occasions it wasn’t.

Tim Farron was an excellent speaker, who spoke from the heart and is obviously passionate about his work in, and with, the communities of Westmorland.

He was very complimentary about the work of the Rotary Club of Upper Eden. His was a very good talk and I hope to have the opportunity to listen to him again.

The Club gave a cheque of £1000 they had raised with the ride for Prostate Cancer to Assistant Governor Mike Esters. Mike will take up the National Lead for this event in 2023 and hopefully more Clubs will take part in the event with Upper Eden. It is a fantastic sum of money, very well-done Upper Eden.

I had a great night, made some new friends and enjoyed hearing about all the fabulous work they are doing in Upper Eden.

Saturday night I joined President Mike and the Rotary Club of Ulverston, along with local Mayor and her consort, for a function at the Coronation Hall. It was a superb night being entertained by the Moonbeats,  a 5-piece band playing music from the 50s, 60’s and 70’s. Wow it was brilliant, even I ended up of the dance floor!

I’m never going to believe it when Clubs say to me, they are an ageing Club after witnessing President Mike and his wife, together with Richard Johnson and his wife Dot, on the dance floor and not coming off for a rest.

I firmly now belief that age is just an attitude!! What a great evening and a lovely way to end a brilliant week.

Am now looking forward to another good week this week coming with Carnforth, my own Club, holding their Charter coupled with an invite to visit Accrington Club.

I really would like to support any Club with a Polio event as this is the charity I’m supporting during my DG year. It is Polio Day on 24th October 2022, and I would like to ask for your support.

I would also like to ask Clubs and individuals to support our Conference to be held  on the 18th March 2023 next year. The theme of the Conference this time is 'Youth'. Applications are open with booking through District Treasurer Larry Branyon.

As for my charity for the year Polio, please could I ask that your clubs get behind Polio, by organising an evening event, coffee morning, raffle or sale and donation your proceeds through the District treasurer, stating Governors Charity. I would welcome the assistance and appreciate any amount, small or large. Happy to come and assist with any event.

That’s all for now folks, Kath
